Your 12 Month Wedding Dress Timeline

Shopping for your wedding dress is one of the most exciting parts about planning your wedding. It really is so much fun, but can honestly also be a little overwhelming for some, the world of wedding gowns is huge, meaning there is a huge amount of choice. For someone who is doing this for the very first time it can really be quite confusing.

We’ve created a little 12 month timeline so you can get started on planning the wedding dress shopping appointment that you have always dreamt of.

12 Months

Congratulations! You have officially set your wedding date and booked your venue for the big day! Now it’s time to start having a look around and researching designers and styles you love. Its also important to set your budget at this stage, not forgetting to set aside some money for your accessories, veil, shoes, jewellery etc.

Have a think about who you would like to ask to come along to your appointment with you. Remember to leave any over opinionated friends or family at home! You want supportive, positive and excited family/friends by your side.

10/8 Months

If it’s your first time dress shopping, you may be expecting shops to stock all designers and every dress in every size…. We don’t. All boutiques will stock certain designers, but will have only one size of each dress, so here at MB we have a variety of sizes to cater for all brides, if it doesn’t fit you don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you can’t try it on, we help by using pins and textile clips to hold the dress in place.

Remember the dress in store is not your dress, your dress will be ordered in your size.

Once you have said YES to your dress we will take your measurements and then place the order for your gown, it will then be around a 6 month wait for yours to arrive with us.

When you find your dress with us here at Minster Bridal you won’t pay the full amount, we will take 50% deposit to allow us to order your dress and the remainder would then be due once your gown arrives.

6 Months

Its time to complete your vision and sort those finishing touches. Start shopping for hair accessories, jewellery and shoes. You will need your wedding shoes for your first fitting in order to get the length of your dress perfect. When shopping for your shoes remember to bear in mind that it will be a long day and you will be wearing them all day so comfort is key.

Lets be honest as well, your shoes really wont be on show, they will be hidden away under the real show stopper, your amazing dress! Its also around this time we will call you to get you booked in for your first fitting, this is such an exciting time because for the very first time you will see your very own dress and you will be wearing your dress!

It is very important to bring your shoes with you to your first fitting.

6 Weeks

This is a brilliant time to come back for your second fitting, this is to check you are happy with how your dress fits and sits after alteration work has been done, if alterations have been needed. Something we often say to our brides, is try and book your hair trial in on the same day, before you come in for your second appointment.

This way you can see your vision all come together and you will know if the hairstyle you have chosen is the perfect style for your dress.

This appointment is a perfect time to practice walking in your dress with your wedding shoes.

1 Week

It’s time to collect your special dress. It will be perfectly steamed and ready for you to walk down the aisle in. When you come in to the store you will see it hanging beautifully before we pop it in a protective dress bag ready for you to take to the venue you will be staying in the night prior to your big day.

The Big Day

Its time for you to slip the gown of your dreams on and marry the love of your life. Breathe, relax and take it all in. All the hard work, planning and waiting for your special day is finally here and now its time to enjoy every single moment. It really will be the best day of your life! Congratulations to you, you beautiful bride!
